when is wotlk classic coming

It's been almost a decade since World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was released, and fans have been clamoring for a "WoW Classic" version of the game ever since. Blizzard has finally announced that WoW Classic will be released on August 27, 2019!

However, there are still a few unknowns about WoW Classic. Here's everything we know so far about this long-awaited release.

What is WoW Classic?

For those unfamiliar, WoW Classic is a server option for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft that seeks to emulate the game in its original state. The initial release of WoW Classic will take players back to the game as it was circa 2006, before any of the subsequent expansions were released.

This means that, at launch, only content from the original game and its first expansion, The Burning Crusade, will be available. However, Blizzard has stated that they plan on releasing further content updates that will add in the remaining expansions, up to and including Wrath of the Lich King. These content updates will be released periodically after WoW Classic's launch.

Why are people so excited for WoW Classic?

For many people, myself included, WoW Classic is an opportunity to revisit a game that holds a lot of happy memories. It's a chance to relive the glory days of Warcraft before everything became so complicated.

I started playing WoW in the summer of 2006, shortly after the release of The Burning Crusade. I was immediately hooked, and spent the next few years of my life immersed in Azeroth. I have fond memories of staying up late to raid, of grinding for gear, and of spending hours upon hours chatting with friends in-game.

While I quit WoW for good a few years ago, I still often find myself thinking about those halcyon days. WoW Classic is the perfect opportunity for me to jump back in and relive some of those memories.

I'm sure I'm not the only one. For many people, WoW Classic is a way to go back to a simpler time, when life didn't seem quite so complicated.

What content will be available at launch?

As mentioned above, only content from the original game and The Burning Crusade will be available at launch. This includes the following dungeons and raids:
