We don't even know if Warlords of Draenor Classic is in development. All we have to go on is a single line from a job listing back in February 2018, which said Blizzard was looking for a software engineer to work on "a new unannounced project, Classic Blizzard games." The job listing has since been removed, and Blizzard has remained tight-lipped about the possible existence of Warlords of Draenor Classic ever since.
This isn't the first time we've seen a Classic Blizzard game pop up on a job listing. In early 2016, a job listing for a senior software engineer on the Classic Games team mentioned work on "reimagining Blizzard's library of classic games." The listing was later removed, but not before fan sites started speculating that Blizzard was working on a remastered version of Diablo II.
We know Blizzard has been toying with the idea of Warlords of Draenor Classic for years. In a 2017 interview, then-production director J. Allen Brack said Blizzard had considered making Warlords of Draenor Classic "many times" but ultimately decided against it because it would be "a full-time job to keep the game up to date."
"We would love to do it," Brack said. "It's something we've talked about many times. I think it would be a full-time job to keep the game up to date, and we would need to have a team dedicated to that, and we would need to think about how to monetize that, and all of those are valid questions."
However, in a 2018 interview, current World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas said Blizzard was "reevaluating" its stance on Warlords of Draenor Classic.
"I think it's safe to say that we've seen the groundswell of support for even the idea of Classic WoW, let alone the reality of it launching," Hazzikostas said. "So it's something we're taking very seriously now and we'll see where it goes."
Given the overwhelming fan support for Warlords of Draenor Classic
